Slow management

by Carl Honoré  ·  August 30, 2007

A new quarterly magazine has launched in the Netherlands called Slow Management. It’s beautifully produced with slick photography, smart graphics and a clean lay-out. As the title suggests, it’s all about applying the Slow philosophy to the world of management: freeing companies and staff from the destructive obsession with speed, targets and short-term profits. The aim is to show why managers should manage with a light touch. And to give lots of real-world examples of how to do so. ClickHEREto find out more (in Dutch).

End of summer

by Carl Honoré  ·  August 29, 2007

Back home from holidays now. We finished off with a sublime week on a houseboat on Lake Windermere in northern England. We went swimming, cycling, kayaking, walking and cooked amazing meals to eat on deck looking out across the water. The sun shone every day. It was bliss.

Slow camping

by Carl Honoré  ·  August 14, 2007

There is nothing slower than camping. We have just returned from three nights at theResurgence Summer Campwhich was held near Malvern, Worcestershire in England. I spoke on the first morning and then the rest of the time we slipped into festival-goer mode. It was a joy waking up to the sound of birds singing instead of the trill of the mobile phone or that ping from the email inbox. The site was set by a river and surrounded by trees, and the sun shone constantly. The best part was watching our children spend the whole day, and some of the night, running around playing with new friends. So much freedom. The composting toilets take a bit of getting used to, but nothing beats showering in the outdoors. We’ve got the camping bug now and are already planning our next trip.
