Hi Mr Honoré!
My name is Lisa Schirmer. I am 17 years old, I live in Elsass (in France), and I read your book “In Praise of Slowness” (do you know it is called “Eloge de la lenteur” in French?). I thought it may make you happy to know your readers’ feelings about your book, so I decided to send this e-mail to you. Here in France, we don’t have this mad rythm there is in other countries, in the USA for example : there is a law to instaure 35 hours of work per week, and my week at high school has “only” 30 hours. However, I am naturally quite slow, and people sometimes make remarks : the last one to go off the bus, to eat her meal, this is always me. When I saw your book in the shop, my boyfriend laughed and told me : “This one, it is for you!” In one way, he had right : your book made me consider slowness in an other way, and it brought me ways of reflexion. I consider now slowness as a sort of wisdom and patience, and I try to apply it in some aspects of everyday life : whereas I felt very worried and stressed because of my homeworks when I came back home, I actually organize my evenings to always have a “reading moment” before sleeping, I sometimes cook with my family, I take care of my plants in my bedroom, and I spend more time to WRITE letters (and not e-mails or sms) to my friends, for example.
Nevertheless, all things are not like that, there always is this hurry to live and grow up in my head and in my friends’ heads, but it is quite normal, and this Slow movment gave me a way of thinking slower, and a lot of serenity.
Thanks.

Bonjour Lisa!
Thank you so much for writing. Delighted the book struck a chord with you. You’re lucky to have grasped the joy of slow at such a young age.
Yes, it’s strange to see my book in so many languages. Very strange. But also wonderful to think that people all over the world are warming to the idea of slow.
I wish you all the best in your life. Stay true to your tempo giusto!
Amicalement,
Carl

Hello Carl
Dylan Bell here, musician/songwriter/fellow Canadian. I just read “In Praise of Slow” this summer, and loved it. In fact, the book (and the Slow Movement in general) inspired me to write this little piece. It’s called “K.I.S.S. (Keep it Simple, Sunshine)” You can listen to it here:

and download it here:

Hope you like it! Thanks for the inspiration.
Yours, in tempo giusto
Dylan

The song rocks, Dylan! I’m going to download it right now.
And I won’t mind what the download speed is…

Hi Carl:
I wanted to say that I really enjoyed your boo In Praise of Slowness. I picked it up about 4-5 years go… not by choice, but, just happened upon it and oddly enough, I couldn’t put it down. I also had been grappling with the ridiculous hustle and bustle of NY and was tiring of it. Needless to say, I am in a yoga program that has helped me to slow down. Thanks so much for your contribution by writing your book. I want to know if their is a mailing list I can get on regarding your website. I looked for it but, couldn’t find it.
In slowness,
Nicole Hansen

Thanks for writing, Nicole.
Very pleased the book struck a chord and that you’re now in touch with your inner tortoise. Yoga is amazingly helpful that way.
